BriEf History

Sharon Stewart founded The Rosedale Day School in September of 1995.

The school comprised of four staff members and a total of twenty three students. There were two classes: Senior Kindergarten and Grade One.

RDS was conceived in order to provide Toronto's independent school system with an educational institution that had a two-part focus, first a “back to basics” curriculum, and second, an appreciation of the diversity of student development. Thus our “Little Red School House" was established on Bloor Street.

Our Crest & Motto

Founder, Sharon Stewart selected the Gryphon as part of the school's logo because of the Gryphon's protective nature. The logo was designed by the parents of two original RDS students in 1995.

The Latin motto of “Quisque infans singularis est” meaning “Every Child is Unique” was chosen on the premise that educators strategically nurture and develop the uniqueness of every student.
