The RDS Community was delighted to come together on Thursday for our May Student Assembly at the Church of Redeemer. We were thrilled to have many RDS family members in attendance as we celebrated teaching and learning at RDS, student initiatives, and Gryphon achievements. Please see below for some highlights. 

Students from Grade 1 opened the assembly by sharing a special Land Acknowledgement (accompanied by a slide deck) about committing to action and the ways we can move forward as allies to Indigenous peoples. 

A significant highlight in today’s assembly was all of the engaging class presentations.

The JK class wowed with an amazing rendition of Mr. Sun - their performance even included costumes! The Grade 7 class shared an informative presentation on Understanding Data and how we can use and care for information. The Grade 5’s performed an entertaining take on “Step Back Baby”, a traditional blues song arranged by Doug Akin, and the SK’s supported by their Grade 8 Learning Buddies did an outstanding job of speaking about their Passion Projects. 

Recognizing and celebrating achievements is always an integral part of school assemblies, and yesterday’s assembly was no exception. During assembly we celebrated the following: 

Kindness Kudos
Ms. Scharer shared this month’s Kindness Kudos recipients: Allegra B. (nominated by Michela P.), Calum F. (nominated by his brother Ashton F.), Vivienne A.(nominated by Kelly S.), Mrs. Buwalda (nominated by Layth R.), Mr. Ramkissoon (nominated by Mrs. Recknagel), and Ms. Reed (nominated by Mrs. Recknagel).

Future Design School’s Young Innovators Program Winner
This year’s Young Innovators Program Winner was Talia C. in Grade 8. 

March Gryphons of of the Month
Congratulations to Nathan in Grade 3 and Ava in Grade 4 who are our March Gryphons of the Month.

April Gryphons of the Month
Congratulations to Maya in SK and Naomi in Grade 8 who are our April Gryphons of the Month.

April Golden Broom
The Golden Broom for the cleanest room in the month of April was awarded by Regie to the Grade 5 class.

The assembly came to a close with an exciting “Cup Turner” House Team Challenge between Grade 2 students, and a spirited singing of Happy Birthday, and the RDS Cheer. Gryphons can look forward to our next student assembly on Thursday, May 30th.
